1. Working Style

The first thing to consider is how you’ll be using your desk. Do you generally work on your computer? Do you deal with a lot of paper? Or is it a combination? In any case, figure out what your working style is before you start your search for your perfect desk. This will ensure that whatever desk you end up settling on, will align with your day to day work patterns.

You’ll be spending a lot of time at your desk so make sure that you select a desk configuration style that that is suited for your ergonomics. A quick tip to determine your ideal desk hight is to stand beside it and hold you arm at at 90 degree angle. If your hand rests on the surface easily, you’ve found your ideal desk height. Don’t forget to consider the ergonomics of your desk chair accompanying your desk.Types of desk configurations include L-shape, U-shape, corner desk, and center of the room.

3. Space

The amount of space you have for a desk area will narrow down your choices even further. Do you have a big office or do you work out of your small apartment? Lucky for us, there are a ton of options for either situation. You want to look at executive desks for a large office, or compact desks for a smaller work space.

Regarding space, you’ll also want to figure out how much surface area you need for a desk. Will there be a lot of electronics and cables on your desk? How much storage would you like at your desk?
